Curacao, a must-have experience

By: Valentina Gómez 10A

Right in the Atlantic Ocean, near Venezuela, a beautiful island named Curacao can be found. Curacao is literally a piece of paradise, where you can live unforgettable experiences and keep amazing memories. The climate on the island is wonderful, with an average of eight hours of sun each day, a temperature around 30 degrees Celsius, and a fresh island breeze. Visiting Curacao is like taking a break from the routine and giving yourself a chance to get immersed into natures’ sun-drenched captivating sceneries. It is also an opportunity to learn about different cultures and even a whole new language since the native one is the Papiamentu. There is so much to see and do on this island, so, if you ever go, don’t forget to plan your days and explore its riveting splendor from one side of the rock to the other.

Visiting Willemstad is an important part of the trip, and on the second day, I had the privilege to see with my own eyes the colorful city. There are tons of restaurants where you can have a perfect lunch. Then you can go to the Queen Emma bridge, which isn’t a normal bridge since it moves every time a ship is passing under, so if you are lucky enough, you can be on the bridge while it moves. You can also find a beach mall with all types of stores. Next, we went to Jan Thiel Beach and Mambo beach, where you can enjoy the ocean's view, and if you want, you can get into the water.

Have you ever wanted to swim with dolphins or sea lions? In the Curacao Sea Aquarium, you can have an encounter with some aquatic animals. However, if you really want to do this you must know it is really expensive, but I think it is worth it. In the aquarium, you can also see flamingos and a few of the aquatic flora. Even if you don’t swim with the animals, you can still have a great time, since you can see these creatures making some tricks that will take your breath away.

Last but not least, I went all the way through the border of the island visiting different beaches, and I think it has been one of my favorite experiences.  In all the beaches you can see lots of fishes, but my two favorite ones were the “fisher” beach since I could see two young turtles swimming and eating, the other one was Kenepa Beach in which I saw many coral reefs. It is important to have your own snorkel because without it you will not be able to see all the beauty that the ocean has. This is the part that I recommend the most!

Curacao is one of my favorite destinations for a perfect vacation, and I really wish all of you can visit the island sometime so you can experience the wonderful things I did. If you have already been to Curacao, or if you visit it anytime soon, we want to hear all about your experience, so don’t forget to tell us.

I recently visited the island and I can truly say that it was totally worth it. The first day, we arrived late in the evening and immediately rented a car, this part is crucial in order to explore every inch of Curacao. When we got to the hotel, (Santa Barbara Beach Resort) we found ourselves far away from the main city, but it was really beautiful and above all, it had a private beach. That night we went to an incredible restaurant named “The Pier” in which we had a delicious meal.
